Week 3
Harley and Romeo’s litter 3 weeks old At three weeks old the puppies eyes are open and their hearing is improving. The pups are no longer in a “puppy pile” and are more interactive and playful with each other. The puppies are finding their voices as well and we are starting to socialize them. My kids (who are in their 20’s) are home and it’s truly a family affair.
The puppies are up on their legs and although wobbly, they are walking. This week we introduced puppy pads. This is the beginning of potty training for the pups. Despite their eyes being open, they mostly use their sense of smell. They smell the puppy pads and use the bathroom on the pads. They won’t be fully potty trained when they go home, but this is a good start. Each puppy is really showing his/her personality as they start to mature. By the end of this week, we will start to ween the puppies from Harley. The weening will take a little time, but Harley has done an amazing job as a momma. She’s been so loving and attentive. The puppies are gaining weight and everyone has been healthy and happy.
Meet the Parents
Harley is a 3 year old first generation goldendoodle - standard poodle and golden retriever mix. She weighs 45 pounds. We waited several cycles until she was fully mature for healthy mom and puppies. The first generation have the strongest genetic strengths of each breed. She has mated with a white standard poodle (60 pounds), for a second generation offspring. This generation (F2) is the most desired for limited breeding (75% poodle/25% golden retriever), strong genetics, hypoallergenic coats, without the shedding of labs and golden retrievers but with the same loving and people pleasing behaviors. Harley carries color traits for cream, white, brown, black, and silver, including traits for brindle, sable and phantom.
Harley is sweet and a cuddler, very smart and obeys commands, and enjoys walks. She is great with children and loves people. Same for her sire Romeo.
